Now that the winter term is over and thesis deadlines start to approach, we're glad to announce that Juraj Medzihorský will hold a workshop on Web Scraping this Friday, April 10, at 17h30 in room FT 908.

Web scraping is the use of a little programming (R, in this case) to make data collection from the internet much easier and faster. Often, data that interest us are scattered online in many pages and formats, and downloading or copy-pasting each part individually can take forever. Scraping comes in handy to automate what can be automated, and make this excruciatingly boring part of research as quick as possible.

If you have an idea of something to scrape from the internet, bring it along and we could work on it to see how the scraping could be implemented there.
