The broad topic of this seminar will be conspiracy theories and will have two papers that are presented. One by Federico Vegetti (co-authored with Levente Littvay, Paul Weith and Andre Krouwel) about how beliefs in conspiracy theories are (positively) related to aggression and the endorsement of violence. The second paper co-authored by Bruno Castanho Silva and Levente Littvay looks into the relationship between conspiracy theories and populism. Although we know such a relationship can exist in political discourse, this paper takes a look at the individual level to see if people who are more prone to believe in conspiracies also are more susceptible to populism.
